インストール

アップグレード：前のOSから引継ぐ。前のOSが必要。同等のエディションが必要。
新規インストール、クリーンインストール：引き継がれない。前のOSが不要。全て消してインストール。

エディション

  • Home：機能をケチっている。サポートが短い。
  • Pro：ほぼ全ての機能。サポートが長い。
  • Pro以降：機能追加。

サーバー向けOS。

古いOSと新しいソフト動作

  • サポートしてないけど動作する。バグの修正はされない可能性大。
  • コンポーネント（DirectX）が足りない。
  • フレームワーク/ランタイムが足りない。
  • カーネルやファイルが足りないので動作しない。OSの仕様が違う。
  • インストーラーで弾かれる。
  • インストーラー出来ても変数が違うので動作しない。OSの仕様が違う。
  • コンパイル環境。開発ソフトのバージョンアップ。古いソフトの互換を有効にしていない。
  • ハードウェア、インターフェイス関連。

新しいOSと古いソフト動作

  • 互換性モードを指定する。
  • 仮想マシンから動作させる。

  • スタートボタン削除したので混乱を招いた。Windows 8.1でスタートボタン復活。
  • RTがARM対応。CPUが違うのでx86/x64のソフトの動作互換性なし。

  • スタートメニュー復活。
  • アップデートで不都合多発。
